Kelvin Gastelum Misses Weight Again: Fourth Time in His Career
UFC veteran Kelvin Gastelum has once again failed to make weight, marking the fourth time in his professional career. This time, the incident occurred in the middleweight category, adding a new chapter to his history of weight issues.
Gastelum, 33, weighed in at 191 pounds for his scheduled 185-pound bout against Dustin Stoltzfus at the UFC Noche del Sábado event.
Despite this setback, Stoltzfus, who did manage to make weight, decided to go ahead with the fight. As a result, he will receive 35% of Gastelum’s purse.
Gastelum, with a record of 19-10, has had a history of weight issues, especially in the welterweight category.
In 2014 and 2015, Gastelum failed to make weight for 170-pound fights. In 2016, the UFC was forced to cancel a match between Gastelum and Donald Cerrone because Gastelum exceeded the weight limit, which led the New York State Athletic Commission to suspend him for six months.
After that incident, the UFC forced him to move up to the middleweight category.
Gastelum, who was an interim title challenger, has a record of 3-7 in his last 10 appearances.
