Charles Oliveira will face Mateusz Gamrot in Rio de Janeiro

Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira will face Mateusz Gamrot in a highly anticipated event in his homeland next month.

Oliveira (35-11) and Gamrot (25-3) will star in the main event of UFC Fight Night on October 11 in Rio de Janeiro. This fight will mark Oliveira’s return to Brazil since March 2020.

Originally, Oliveira was scheduled to face Rafael Fiziev, but the latter withdrew last week due to an injury.

Faced with Fiziev’s withdrawal, the UFC considered several opponents for Oliveira. Gamrot, for his part, publicly expressed his desire to fight Oliveira on short notice.

Gamrot has a 4-1 record in his last five appearances, with his only loss against Dan Hooker in August 2024. Gamrot has achieved notable victories over Rafael dos Anjos, Fiziev, and Arman Tsarukyan.

Oliveira seeks to recover from a knockout loss against Ilia Topuria in a fight for the vacant title in July.

UFC ranks Oliveira and Gamrot as numbers 4 and 8, respectively, in the organization’s lightweight rankings. The UFC Fight Night event will be held at the Farmasi Arena.
