UFC 319 Suffers Significant Losses Just Days Before the Event
The UFC 319 pay-per-view event has undergone significant changes just days before its celebration, losing three fights due to various circumstances.
The most surprising weight miss occurred on Friday, when Bryan Battle (12-2) failed to make weight in the middleweight category, exceeding the limit by 4 pounds. The scheduled fight between Battle and Nursulton Ruziboev (36-9-2) was canceled as a result of this failure on the scale.
This is the second consecutive time that Battle has failed to meet the required weight for a UFC fight. Despite having moved up a weight class for this event, Battle failed again by a considerable margin.
At 30 years old, Battle has performed outstandingly in the octagon, with a 7-1 record in the UFC.
Another fight that fell off the event was the welterweight final of “The Ultimate Fighter”, between Rodrigo Sezinando and Daniil Donchenko, due to an injury to Sezinando. This matchup will be rescheduled for a later date.
In addition, an expected lightweight bout between Diego Ferreira and King Green was also canceled this week. Green announced via his social media that he was forced to withdraw from the card due to an injury.
Fortunately for the UFC, the main event, the middleweight title fight between Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev, is still on. Both fighters managed to make weight on Friday, with Chimaev weighing in at 183 pounds, two pounds under the limit.
Middleweight contender Caio Borralho also managed to make weight as a substitute, although he will not need to fight at the moment.
