Charles Oliveira vs. Rafael Fiziev: Main Event at UFC Fight Night Cancelled
An unexpected setback shakes the world of mixed martial arts. The expected lightweight main event between Charles Oliveira and Rafael Fiziev, scheduled for October 11 at UFC Fight Night in Rio de Janeiro, has been canceled.
Sources confirm that Fiziev (13-4) was forced to withdraw from the fight due to an injury. So far, the UFC has not issued official comments on the severity of Fiziev’s injury or on the possibility of finding a replacement for Oliveira.
Oliveira (35-11), 35 years old, was scheduled to fight in his home country, Brazil, for the first time since March 2020. The fighter seeks to recover after suffering a knockout loss to Ilia Topuria in June, in a fight for the vacant division title.
Fiziev, 32, was looking to consolidate his position after a decision victory over Ignacio Bahamondes in June. Previously, he had lost by decision to Justin Gaethje in a short-notice fight in March.
