Charles Oliveira vs. Rafael Fiziev: UFC Fight Night Rio de Janeiro Main Event Cancelled
A hard blow for mixed martial arts (MMA) fans. The expected main event between Charles Oliveira and Rafael Fiziev in the lightweight category has been canceled.
The fight, scheduled for October 11 at UFC Fight Night in Rio de Janeiro, will not take place due to an injury to Fiziev.
Sources confirmed the news of Fiziev’s injury, which forces him to withdraw from the event.
So far, the UFC has not issued any official statement regarding Fiziev’s injury or the search for a possible replacement for Oliveira.
Oliveira, with a record of 35-11, intended to compete in his home country, Brazil, for the first time since March 2020. The fighter seeks to recover after his knockout loss to Ilia Topuria in June.
Fiziev (13-4), for his part, was coming off a decision victory over Ignacio Bahamondes in June. Before that, he suffered a decision loss to Justin Gaethje.
