Charles Oliveira vs. Rafael Fiziev: Injury Withdrawal in UFC Main Event
The main UFC lightweight card, scheduled for October 11, has suffered a significant setback. The fight between Charles Oliveira and Rafael Fiziev has been canceled due to an injury suffered by Fiziev.
This 155-pound matchup was scheduled to headline the UFC Fight Night in Rio de Janeiro. However, sources confirmed the news of Fiziev’s injury, forcing his withdrawal from the event.
So far, UFC has not issued any official comments on Fiziev’s injury or the possible search for a replacement opponent for Oliveira.
Oliveira, aged 35, was scheduled to compete in his home country, Brazil, for the first time since March 2020. He was looking to bounce back from a knockout loss to Ilia Topuria in June, in a fight for the vacant division title.
Fiziev, 32, was aiming to continue his streak after a decision victory over Ignacio Bahamondes in June. Previously, he had suffered a decision loss to Justin Gaethje in a last-minute fight in March.
