Dillon Danis, Banned from UFC After MSG Fight: Details and Consequences

2 Min Read

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has imposed a ban on Dillon Danis, Conor McGregor’s former sparring partner, preventing him from participating in future events of the organization, according to UFC CEO Dana White. Danis was involved in an altercation with several members of UFC champion Islam Makhachev’s team during the UFC 322 event held on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. The incident took place in the cage area, just before the start of the main card, where Makhachev was headlining the welterweight title fight against Jack Della Maddalena. Various videos captured Danis in a dispute with Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Magomed Zaynukov, Makhachev’s teammates.

I was on the other side [of the octagon] and I thought, ‘Shit, I know exactly what this is,'” White said about the fight. “You’ll never see Dillon Danis in a UFC event again.”

In the press conference after the UFC 322 event, White stated that he would not press charges against Danis, but made it clear that the 32-year-old fighter would not be welcome at any UFC event in the future. Danis was part of McGregor’s team in 2018, when McGregor was defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov in a UFC title fight in Las Vegas. Both teams maintained a strong rivalry before that fight, with McGregor making derogatory comments about Nurmagomedov’s family and religion. Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor in the title fight and subsequently jumped out of the octagon to attack his corner. Over time, the rivalry has diminished. Nurmagomedov and Makhachev have been teammates for a long time, and Danis mocked Makhachev in several social media posts during fight week.
