Diego Sánchez Receives Sentence for Weapons Charges

Former UFC fighter Diego Sánchez has been sentenced to five years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to a felony firearms charge. The sentence was handed down on Thursday, marking a crucial point in the case dating back to last year. Sánchez, 44 years old, was arrested in July 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Police reported that the incident involved shots fired into the air from inside a Jeep. The vehicle was near a traffic accident at the time of the event.

During the hearing, Sánchez expressed his commitment to sobriety and mental health, taking responsibility for his actions. Prosecutors had requested a two-year prison sentence, according to local reports. Sánchez rose to fame in the UFC in 2004, by winning the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. In 2009, he competed for a UFC championship. His fight against Clay Guida in 2009 was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. The promotion released him in 2020.
