Diego Sánchez Arrested After Alleged Shooting from a Moving Vehicle
Former UFC fighter Diego Sánchez was arrested Thursday in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on charges of discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle.
According to online records, Sanchez, 43, faces charges for shooting at or from a motor vehicle, with the possibility of causing serious bodily harm, and for negligent use of a deadly weapon. As of now, bail has not been set for his release.
The incident, which involved a Jeep Gladiator, occurred while the vehicle was passing by the scene of a traffic accident. Despite Sánchez denying having fired the shot, he was arrested by the authorities. The driver of the vehicle was not detained in connection with the event.
Sánchez was released from the UFC in 2020, after a series of lackluster performances and a public dispute with his then-manager and the organization itself. In 2023, he participated in bare-knuckle boxing matches and was scheduled to compete again at the beginning of this year, but the event was canceled. Sánchez gained popularity after his participation in the first season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2004.
