Gabriel Bonfim Dominates at UFC Fight Night

The UFC welterweight division is in the spotlight, and Gabriel Bonfim has been the first to seize the opportunity, leaving an indelible mark in the main event of UFC Fight Night. Bonfim (19-1) achieved an impressive knockout over Randy Brown (20-7) with a flying knee at 1:40 of the second round. Brown, 35, initially protested the stoppage, but replays showed the devastating impact of Bonfim’s knee. The 28-year-old Brazilian fighter extended his winning streak to five and, after his victory, issued a challenge to former interim champion Colby Covington.

Colby, stop running. Give me the opportunity to take you out of the ring. I’m sure I’ll retire you.

Although the knockout was the end, Bonfim’s main strategy was focused on calf kicks. He connected 35 total strikes, including 23 to Brown’s leg, according to UFC statistics. This tactic, which he dominated in the first round, opened the doors for opportunities in the second.

Brown, who had won four of his last five fights, showed resistance and willingness to exchange blows, but the knee in the second round sent him to the canvas. Although he seemed to recover quickly after the stoppage, he was temporarily unconscious from the impact. This was the first time Brown had been knocked out since 2020. Bonfim seeks to enter the UFC top 10 for the first time in his career. Before the fight, he was ranked number 14. His opponent, Covington, is ranked 10th, but hasn’t fought since December and hasn’t won since his decision victory over Jorge Masvidal in March 2022.
