UFC Cancels Main Event at Last Minute Due to Medical Reasons
Saturday’s main event at UFC was canceled just as the fighters were about to enter the cage. The decision was made after Maycee Barber was not medically cleared to compete.
Barber, who hadn’t fought in over a year due to an injury and an illness that, according to her, hospitalized her for 11 days, was scheduled to face Erin Blanchfield in the women’s flyweight main event at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.
On Friday, Barber failed to make weight, exceeding the 126-pound limit by half a pound and forfeiting 20% of her purse to Blanchfield.
Blanchfield revealed that she learned of the cancellation moments before heading to the octagon, when UFC’s Chief Business Officer, Hunter Campbell, entered her locker room. The broadcast did not provide details about Barber’s medical issue, only that she was not cleared to compete.I knew something wasn’t right when I saw him, because he was very serious.

Blanchfield, ranked number 4 in the women’s flyweight rankings, urged the UFC to schedule her for another fight, preferably “another five-round fight against someone else in the top 5, to keep moving towards the title”.
She stated that she is not interested in rescheduling the fight against Barber.Referring to Barber’s weight miss and the late cancellation, Blanchfield added: “Super professional.”No, my coaches said immediately, ‘Don’t take her into account. She’s not at your level.’
