Tom Aspinall Celebrates His Rise to the UFC Heavyweight Title
English fighter Tom Aspinall has expressed his best wishes to Jon Jones after his retirement from the world of mixed martial arts (MMA). Aspinall, who now holds the undisputed UFC heavyweight title, revealed that his only disappointment of the last year was not having had the opportunity to compete for the championship against Jones. Aspinall (15-3) became the undisputed champion last Saturday, when UFC CEO Dana White announced Jones’ (28-1) retirement. After winning the interim title in November 2023, Aspinall was expecting a unification bout against Jones. In an interview, Aspinall acknowledged that, from a personal perspective, he would have liked Jones to continue competing, but respects his decision to retire. He stated that he has always considered himself the champion and is glad that the situation with Jones is “a thing of the past”.Aspinall also added: “I don’t know Jones personally. I wish him the best in his life.” Aspinall, 32, is expected to defend his heavyweight title in the near future. The fighter has expressed his desire to fight twice this year. “A fight is coming,” Aspinall said about his next fight. “I want to fight twice this year. I absolutely see that happening.”I’ve said it a thousand times, I never chased Jon, I chased the heavyweight title. The opponent in front of me never mattered. What was important to me was being the best in the world.
