For Tom Aspinall, interim UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones is officially retired.
Aspinall, with a record of 15-3, stated on the “Good Guy/Bad Guy” podcast that he prefers to leave behind the possibility of a unification fight against Jones.
UFC CEO Dana White referred to this possible match between Jones, the undisputed champion, and Aspinall as “the biggest fight in heavyweight history,” but Jones has not shown interest and Aspinall, who has not fought since defending his interim title in July 2024, seems tired of waiting.
It’s time to move on. I am the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. I am ready to face anyone and get this division moving again.
Aspinall also added:

Besides the optimism previously expressed by White, the UFC has not made recent comments on the status of the possible fight. Aspinall points out that almost none of the top-ranked heavyweights currently have a fight scheduled.
Aspinall added that his next move should be announced “soon”, in collaboration with the UFC.
Jones, 37, is widely considered one of the best fighters of all time. He moved up from the light heavyweight division in March 2023 and won the undisputed heavyweight title by submitting Ciryl Gane. He has only fought once since obtaining the belt, recording a TKO title defense against Stipe Miocic in November.
