Yordan Alvarez: The Hand Injury Turns Out to Be More Serious

Houston – Yordan Alvarez’s hand injury, the Houston Astros’ star hitter, has been revealed to be more serious than initially thought.

Last Friday, Alvarez felt pain in his right hand while batting, which led to the discovery of a small fracture that was initially diagnosed as a muscle strain. Currently, the fracture shows 60% healing.

The immediate plan for him right now is simply to rest.

Dana Brown, General Manager
According to General Manager Dana Brown, Alvarez’s fracture in the fourth metacarpal was not detected in the initial images from May 6 due to the inflammation and fluid present.

Alvarez has been out of action since May 3rd due to this injury, and the expectations were that he could rejoin the team this weekend. However, the current plan is to allow the hand to rest completely.

Brown explained that Alvarez will be able to continue with other baseball-related activities, such as running and possibly playing in the outfield to catch the ball. The only restriction is to avoid batting to ensure complete healing.

Since Friday’s images indicated that the fracture is already more than half healed, Brown is optimistic about Alvarez’s recovery time.

We hope that, due to your progress in healing, you will return soon.

Dana Brown, General Manager
Alvarez, through a translator, commented that he would like to have a “magic ball” to predict his return. He highlighted that the good news is that the injury is healing well, but he needs rest to avoid delaying the healing process. Brown added that the fracture may have occurred when Alvarez attempted to play despite the initial muscle strain. According to Brown, Alvarez played for almost two weeks after noticing the initial problem before undergoing the first imaging tests.

Before being placed on the injured list, Alvarez batted .210 with three home runs and 18 RBIs in 29 games this season.
