Yimi García Out for the Rest of the Season
Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitcher Yimi García will not pitch again this season due to elbow surgery, according to manager John Schneider.
García, who in the current campaign had a 1-2 record in 22 appearances, with an ERA of 3.86 and three saves in seven opportunities, will miss the rest of the season’s schedule.
In 21 starts, Garcia struck out 25 batters in the first year of a two-year, $15 million contract.
Anthony Santander Advances in His Recovery
In contrast, the outlook is more encouraging for batter Anthony Santander. The player participated in batting practice with the team on Friday.
Santander, who hasn’t played since May 29 due to a left shoulder ailment, did batting practice, running, and fielding drills on Friday, and will repeat the routine on Saturday and Sunday.
Santander is expected to join the Blue Jays on their upcoming trip to Cincinnati and could begin a minor league rehab assignment after that series.
Santander signed a five-year, $92.5 million contract with the Blue Jays last offseason. Before being placed on the injured list on May 30, he batted .179 with six home runs and 18 RBIs in 50 games.
