Yankees Update: Weaver and Stanton
The Yankees’ closer, Luke Weaver, received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his injured left hamstring. On the other hand, designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is scheduled to begin a minor league rehabilitation assignment next week. Weaver suffered the injury on Sunday while warming up against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is expected to be out of action for four to six weeks. The PRP injection aims to accelerate healing.Weaver has a 1-1 record with a 1.05 ERA and eight saves in nine opportunities. The 31-year-old right-hander can become a free agent this fall. Stanton has been out of action since before spring training due to epicondylitis causing elbow pain, a repetitive stress injury. He was already throwing yesterday. Today he will be in his throwing program,” said New York manager Aaron Boone before the start of Friday’s series against the Boston Red Sox. “He’s pretty upbeat and optimistic considering the injury and the timeline, so let’s hope it goes better than that.

Stanton batted .233 with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs last year, missing 28 games due to a left hamstring strain that kept him out between June 22 and July 29.I still believe rehab is in play next week. He’ll stay in Tampa again, with more live at-bats, full workouts and running and all that,” Boone said. “He’ll probably stay until the weekend.

He hasn’t played a full season since 2018, the first year after New York acquired him from the Miami Marlins.
Upon entering 2025, he had missed 294 of 870 games in the previous six seasons (34%) due to a right bicep strain and a posterior cruciate ligament strain in his right knee (2019), a left hamstring strain (2020), a left quadriceps strain (2021), right ankle inflammation and left Achilles tendinitis (2022), and a left hamstring strain (2023 and ’24).
