The Yankees Honor George Costanza with a Bobblehead

The New York Yankees continue to celebrate their “travel secretary assistant” this season. In Thursday’s game against the Boston Red Sox, the first 18,000 fans received a bobblehead of George Costanza sleeping under his desk. The event coincided with “Seinfeld Night” at Yankee Stadium. Fans arrived up to five hours before the start of the game to make sure they got the coveted item. The figure represents Costanza, played by Jason Alexander and one of the main characters of the hit series “Seinfeld”, sleeping at work during the episode “The Nap” from season 8. Above the image of Costanza sleeping, one of his quotes from the episode is found: “I love a good nap. Sometimes it’s the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning.”
In the 1997 episode, Costanza, played by Jason Alexander, decides to sleep under his desk at the office. He then recruits a maintenance man to expand the space under his desk to have more headroom, a shelf for an alarm clock, a drawer for a blanket, and a cup holder.

This is better than my bed at home.

Costanza then tries it and takes a nap. But then, the owner of the Yankees, George Steinbrenner, with the voice of the show’s co-creator, Larry David, enters Constanza’s office looking for him. When he doesn’t find him, he waits inside. Finally, Costanza calls Jerry Seinfeld and asks him to make a fake emergency call so that Steinbrenner will leave the building. The Yankees also released a Costanza bobblehead during a game against the Red Sox last season. In that one, Costanza is in his batting position while wearing a shirt and pants combination. The crowds lined up four hours before the start of the game during the Costanza draft last season.
