Yankees Bolster Their Pitching with Carlos Carrasco

The New York Yankees, seeking to strengthen their pitching staff after Saturday’s loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, have called up experienced right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco.

This decision comes after the team suffered a heavy defeat on Saturday. To make room on the active roster, right-handed pitcher Yerry De Los Santos has been sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

De Los Santos, 27, has maintained an ERA of 3.00 in 12 innings during two stints with the Yankees this season. He was one of six relievers used on Saturday to cover 6 ⅔ innings. The bullpen had a heavy workload due to Will Warren allowing seven runs in just 1 ⅓ innings. Pablo Reyes, a position player, pitched the final inning in the 18-2 loss.

Carrasco returns to the Yankees after starting the season, his sixteenth in the majors, in the team’s starting rotation. The 38-year-old Venezuelan posted a 5.91 ERA in eight games (six starts) before being designated for assignment on May 6.

After going unclaimed on waivers, Carrasco accepted a direct assignment to Triple-A, opting to remain in the organization to provide the Yankees with more rotation depth. In two starts for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he allowed seven runs in 6 ⅓ innings and hasn’t pitched since May 18. This makes him available to offer the Yankees greater length if Ryan Yarbrough’s start doesn’t go as planned.
