Yankees Bolster Bullpen with Addition of Ángel Chivilli

The New York Yankees continue to strengthen their pitching staff. The team has finalized the acquisition of right-handed reliever Ángel Chivilli, coming from the Colorado Rockies, through a trade. In the agreement, the Yankees sent minor league infielder T.J. Rumfield to the Rockies. Chivilli, a 23-year-old from the Dominican Republic, has experience in the Major Leagues, having participated in two seasons. During the past season, Chivilli recorded an ERA of 7.06 in 43 relief appearances with the Rockies. In 2024, his ERA was 4.55 in 30 appearances. In his career, Chivilli has struck out 71 batters, walked 33, and allowed 20 home runs in 90 and a third innings. To make room on the 40-man roster for Chivilli, the team designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment. This move adds to the Yankees’ recent offseason actions, which included the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers from Miami in exchange for four prospects. Rumfield, 25, has played in the minor leagues in the Philadelphia Phillies and Yankees organizations since 2021. The Rockies, for their part, acquired infielder Edouard Julien and reliever Pierson Ohl in a trade with Minnesota, sending minor league pitcher Jace Kaminska to the Twins. Julien finished seventh in the voting for the American League Rookie of the Year award in 2023. He batted .839 OPS with 16 home runs in 109 games for the Twins, solidifying himself as the starting second baseman.
