Women’s Professional Baseball League: Tryouts in August

The Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) is about to take a crucial step towards its launch. The league will hold tryouts next month at the Washington Nationals’ stadium, marking a significant milestone in its development. The WPBL aims to start its inaugural season with six teams in the spring of 2026. Tryouts, scheduled from August 22 to 25, will serve to select the 150 players who will be invited to the league draft in October. According to the WPBL, more than 600 players have registered to participate in this four-day camp. The first three days will be dedicated to training sessions, athletic performance tests, and player evaluations at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, before a first round of cuts. On August 25, the players will compete in a live game at Nationals Park, after which the final cuts will be made.

We are truly excited to see all the players at the tryouts this summer and witness their incredible skills. We are building a future where girls and women who love baseball can dream as big as they want and now, finally, have their own league.

Alex Hugo, special advisor to the league
Alex Hugo, star of the women’s baseball team of the United States and special advisor to the league, will lead the tests. The WPBL was co-founded by Justine Siegal, the first woman to coach for an MLB team. When it debuts, it will be the first professional league for women since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, immortalized in “A League of Their Own,” disappeared in 1954. On its way to launch, the WPBL has already reached a media agreement with Fremantle, the production company behind programs like “The Price Is Right” and “Family Feud”, and has incorporated Assia Grazioli-Venier, a global investor in women’s sports, as its president.
