Jacob Wilson Leaves Game with Forearm Contusion
Athletics’ promising rookie shortstop Jacob Wilson had to leave Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels due to a left forearm contusion.
Wilson was hit on the forearm, near the wrist, by a pitch from pitcher Kyle Hendricks in the third inning in West Sacramento, California. Although he initially remained in the game and was examined after being removed on a double play, it was determined that he could continue.
However, at the start of the fifth inning, Wilson went to the clubhouse with several team coaches. Max Schuemann came in as a pinch hitter for him and was retired to shortstop. Schuemann also replaced Wilson in the field at the top of the sixth inning.
Wilson, 23, started the third day in the Major Leagues with a batting average of .343. After failing in the first inning, his average dropped to .341. In 47 games, he has hit five home runs, 10 doubles, and has driven in 26 runs.
Wilson has emerged as a possible All-Star candidate in his first full season in the Major Leagues. He was the sixth overall pick in the 2023 draft by the then Oakland Athletics.
