WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson has been out of action since he was hit by a pitch on his left hand last Tuesday against Atlanta. However, the player has taken an important step in his recovery. Wilson participated in batting practice on Friday, marking his return to the field after the injury. His incorporation into the team is expected to be imminent.

He looked good. There was some consideration to include him in the lineup today, but I’m not sure Jacob, in talking to him last night, was overly confident in playing. I think he’s more confident now after being on the field.

Manager Mark Kotsay
Kotsay anticipated that Wilson could come off the bench on Friday, and the expectation is that he could start over the weekend and then play in Tuesday’s All-Star Game in Atlanta. Wilson and designated hitter Brent Rooker were selected for the game. Rooker will participate in Monday’s Home Run Derby. Wilson, who is batting .335 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs, is the first rookie starting shortstop All-Star chosen by the fans. He was selected sixth overall in the 2023 amateur draft. Wilson and teammate Nick Kurtz are the second and third leading candidates for American League Rookie of the Year, according to Sportsbook.
