Luis Robert Jr. Rest to Adjust His Game

The Chicago White Sox have decided to give Luis Robert Jr. a break for a couple of days. The goal is for the player to work on some adjustments in his game, seeking to improve his performance at the plate.

Manager Will Venable announced that Robert will not be in the starting lineup on Tuesday and Wednesday against Detroit.

He will be available, but not in the starting lineup, just to give him the opportunity to really focus on some of these adjustments without feeling the pressure of having to go out and perform.

In his last seven games, Robert has underperformed, with a batting average of .050. So far this season, his batting average is .177, with five home runs and 20 RBIs in 55 games.

Michael A. Taylor replaced Robert in center field for Tuesday’s game against the Tigers. Venable commented that Robert reacted positively to the idea of taking a few days off.

He is working very hard and striving a lot throughout the day to try to make this work.

Robert, who was an All-Star in 2023, has been playing with some discomfort in his right knee, but Venable doesn’t think this has limited him.

The White Sox also made a change to their pitching staff on Tuesday, placing right-handed pitcher Jonathan Cannon on the 15-day injured list due to a lower back strain. Caleb Freeman was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.

Cannon, 24, allowed five runs in three innings in Monday’s 13-1 loss to Detroit. He is 2-7 with a 4.66 ERA in 10 starts and two relief appearances this season.

He underwent some imaging tests and they are still evaluating him. Yes, it’s going to be a while here, but we’ll keep seeing how he feels before setting a timeline.
