Miguel Vargas to the Injured List with Hand Injury
Chicago – The Chicago White Sox have placed infielder Miguel Vargas on the 10-day injured list due to a sprained left hand.
Vargas had to leave the game in the fifth inning of the 10-4 loss to the New York Yankees on Thursday night.
The player, who played first base, suffered the injury while trying to stretch to receive a throw from Curtis Mead from third base.
It appeared that Aaron Judge’s left leg hit Vargas’s gloved hand as he ran towards first base. Vargas’s glove fell off and he collapsed to the ground, visibly in pain.
In the second game against New York, Vargas hit the first grand slam of his career. In the 121 games this season, he is batting .234 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs.
Additionally, the White Sox called up Tim Elko from Triple-A Charlotte. The rookie first baseman was included in the starting lineup for Friday night’s game against New York.
In his first 20 games of the season with the White Sox, Elko batted .145 (9 for 62) with four home runs and eight RBIs.
