Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Avoids Serious Injury

PITTSBURGH – Good news for Toronto Blue Jays fans. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., after undergoing an MRI due to a left hamstring injury, shows no damage. The starter, who did not participate in Tuesday night’s game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh, could return to the field this Wednesday.

We are being very cautious with him and I’m glad we took him out when we did. I think he was a little quiet, as were we, with the MRI results. We can’t afford to lose him for an extended period.

John Schneider, Blue Jays Manager
Guerrero Jr. felt the discomfort in the fifth inning of Monday’s game, where the Blue Jays fell 5-2 to the Pirates. The injury occurred after two outstanding defensive plays, including a spectacular stretch at first base. So far this season, Guerrero Jr. boasts a batting average of .298, with 21 home runs and 69 RBIs in 124 games. This year, the Blue Jays signed a 14-year, $500 million contract extension with the player. The Blue Jays began Tuesday with a 73-53 record, leading the American League, with a five-game lead over the New York Yankees and Boston in the East Division.
