Alfonso Márquez Headlines His Seventh League Championship Series

Experienced umpire Alfonso Márquez is in his seventh League Championship Series, assuming the role of crew chief alongside James Hoye. The information was provided by Major League Baseball on Sunday.

In this edition, Ryan Additon, Ben May, Adam Beck, and John Libka debut in this crucial instance of the competition.

Márquez will be at the helm of the umpiring crew in the series that will pit the Toronto Blue Jays against the Seattle Mariners, which began on Sunday. For his part, Hoye, with five Championship Series under his belt, will lead the National League matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and the current champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, starting on Monday.

Each series will have teams of seven referees, with a rest referee per game.

For the first American League game, Additon will be behind the plate, accompanied by May at first, Márquez at second, Marvin Hudson at third, D.J. Reyburn in left field, Quinn Wolcott in right field, and Doug Eddings as the reserve umpire.

Eddings will be in charge of calling balls and strikes in the second game, supported by May, Márquez, Huston, Reyburn and Wolcott.

The National League series will begin on Monday with Libka behind the plate, Hoye at first, Beck at second, Vic Carapazza at third, Chad Fairchild in left field, Mark Ripperger in right field, and Gabe Morales as the reserve umpire.

Morales will be behind the plate in the second game, with Hoye, Beck, Carapazza, Fairchild, and Ripperger completing the umpiring crew.

Hudson will be the crew chief for the American League in Game 3, with Márquez as the reserve umpire. Carapazza will lead the National League in Game 2, with Hoye as the reserve.

Hudson is making his fifth Championship Series appearance, while Carapazza and Eddings each have four. Fairchild is making his third, and Morales, Reyburn, Ripperger, and Wolcott are making their second.

Alex MacKay, Bill Miller, and David Rackley will be the replay umpires from the Major League Baseball office in New York.
