Twins Place Zebby Matthews on Injured List
The Minnesota Twins have placed right-handed pitcher Zebby Matthews on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain.
This decision is retroactive to Thursday for Matthews, who has a 1-1 record with a 5.21 ERA in four appearances (all starts) this season, after being called up to the team on May 18.
Matthews, 25, has a 2-5 record with a 6.19 ERA in 13 career appearances (all starts) with Minnesota.In addition, the Twins activated left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated him from the 15-day injured list. Coulombe, who is recovering from a forearm injury, will be available from the bullpen for Sunday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays in Minneapolis.
Coulombe, 35, made a rehab appearance with Triple-A St. Paul, pitching a scoreless inning on Friday night against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.Before being placed on the injured list on May 18, he threw 16 2/3 innings without allowing a run in 19 relief appearances with Minnesota this season.
