Carlos Correa Leaves Game with Ankle Injury

Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa had to be helped off the field after suffering a right ankle injury during the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The unfortunate situation occurred when Tommy Pham of the Pirates slid into second base. Pham was trying to advance to second base after hitting a ball that hit the right field wall in the seventh inning. The throw from right fielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. was faster than Pham, whose helmet hit Correa’s lower leg. Correa fell to the ground and remained there before leaving the game. Brooks Lee, who was on second base, was moved to the shortstop position to replace Correa. The team reported that Correa suffered a mild ankle sprain. Correa, 30 years old, is in his eleventh season in the Major Leagues and has been a key piece at shortstop for the Twins since he signed as a free agent in 2022. Last season, he missed approximately half the time due to a concussion and a plantar fascia injury, which prevented him from participating in the All-Star Game, despite having been selected for the third time.
