Twins Forced to Bench Buxton and Correa After Collision

Milwaukee – The Minnesota Twins were forced to leave Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa out of the lineup for the first game of the three-game series against Milwaukee, after both players suffered a collision on Thursday.

The incident occurred during the 4-0 victory against Baltimore, where Buxton and Correa collided while pursuing a fly ball. Both players were immediately placed in concussion protocol.

In the third inning of Thursday’s game, Correa moved toward the outfield to catch the ball, while Buxton was running inward. It appeared that Buxton called for the ball at the last second before they both collided.

The noise from the crowd made their communication difficult during the play.

Jayce Tingler, Bench Coach

Correa was immediately removed from the game, while Buxton left in the next inning.

Brooks Lee, the regular second baseman, filled in at shortstop against the Brewers. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. played in center field.

Correa, 30, had only missed three games this season, all scheduled rest, after being limited to 86 games last season due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. Buxton, whose career has been more affected by injuries, also played in 41 of Minnesota’s first 44 games.
