In an effort to bolster their pitching staff with young talent, the Mets have announced the call-up of Jonah Tong, one of their most promising prospects on the mound. Manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed that Tong will make his Major League debut on Friday against the Miami Marlins.
“I think it all comes down to mastering the minor leagues. It’s difficult to stay there,” Mendoza stated.

Jonah Tong, prospecto de los Mets, que tiene marca de 10-5 con una efectividad de 1.43 en 113 2/3 entradas en 22 aperturas en ligas menores, hará su debut en la MLB contra los Marlins el viernes.Tong has demonstrated impressive performance in the minor leagues this season, recording a 10-5 record with an outstanding 1.43 ERA in 113 2/3 innings, distributed over 22 starts between Double-A and Triple-A. His recent promotion to Triple-A Syracuse was marked by 11 2/3 scoreless innings in two appearances.
The young 22-year-old right-handed pitcher represented the Mets in the Futures Game last month. Tong, a native of Canada, was selected in the seventh round of the 2022 draft.
The arrival of Tong joins that of Nolan McLean, another pitching prospect who was called up earlier this month to reinforce the Mets’ rotation.
