Tarik Skubal Exits Game with Left Side Discomfort
The Detroit Tigers’ star pitcher, Tarik Skubal, had to leave the game against the Miami Marlins in the fourth inning due to discomfort in his left side. According to the team, Skubal will undergo imaging tests to determine the severity of the injury. The player expressed optimism, but also concern about the situation. In the 3.1 innings he pitched, Skubal threw 45 pitches, allowing four hits and four earned runs. He did not walk any batters and struck out two batters. The pitcher allowed a single to Heriberto Hernandez and then retired Eric Wagaman with a fly ball to center field before leaving the game.I understand there’s some concern, but at the same time I’ve seen our trainer do a lot of physical work. In that aspect, I’m optimistic. We’ll get more information, we’ll do some imaging and see what’s there just to calm the brain as well.

Skubal immediately signaled to manager A.J. Hinch and a member of the Tigers’ coaching staff. There are some pains that come and go when you’re playing. This one was new to me. And that’s what somehow made the decision for me.

Additionally, Javier Baez also left the game after being hit near the left eye by a pitch in the second inning. Baez was hit by a Sandy Alcantara fastball. The ball first hit the edge of his helmet before making contact near his eye. Baez was attended to by the Tigers’ medical staff and, although he was able to get up and leave the game, he completed the concussion protocol. Baez is listed as day-to-day.We have to review it. We hope for the best.
