Reese Olson to Injured List with Finger Inflammation
Detroit Tigers right-handed pitcher Reese Olson will miss at least his next start due to right finger inflammation, according to recent reports.
Olson, who has a 4-3 record with an ERA of 2.96 in nine starts, had to leave Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays, in which the Tigers fell 2-1, due to finger discomfort. Despite this, the pitcher managed to limit the opposing offense to just one hit in six innings without allowing runs, striking out six batters and issuing one walk.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has found it necessary to readjust the team’s rotation. For Wednesday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, a bullpen start will be chosen. In addition, Jack Flaherty has been moved to pitch on Thursday at the start of the series against the Cleveland Guardians.
In a corresponding move on the roster, the Tigers called up reliever Chase Lee from Triple-A Toledo. The right-handed pitcher has pitched in nine innings across eight appearances this season, allowing one run and accumulating nine strikeouts.
“We’re certainly not going to send Reese out there for a game without his full arsenal,” Hinch told the media on Monday. “We’ll have more updates when we have them. But Reese will not be in this series in any way, and we have an extra reliever now.”

Hinch also reported that Casey Mize, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury, took batting practice on Monday and could return to the Tigers’ rotation as early as Saturday.
