Tigers Activate Meadows and Place Finnegan on Injured List

Detroit – The Detroit Tigers have made moves to their roster, placing closer Kyle Finnegan on the injured list and activating outfielder Parker Meadows. Finnegan, who arrived to the Tigers from the Washington Nationals at the trade deadline, has a 3-0 record with four saves in 12 games. Since his arrival, he has not allowed a run in 14 1/3 innings, allowing only three hits and three walks, while striking out 19 batters. Finnegan’s injury, a slight strain in his right adductor, occurred during warm-up in Detroit’s victory against the New York Mets on Wednesday.

“I definitely stopped it before it got worse. I hope to throw some more games in the regular season and be ready for the postseason,” Finnegan stated.

The Tigers’ bullpen is in a complicated situation, with Chris Paddack on bereavement leave and Bailey Horn about to be absent for the birth of his child. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch announced that Will Vest, who shared the closer role with Finnegan, will maintain that position, with Tommy Kahnle and Rafael Montero as setup men. Meadows, limited to 38 games this season due to shoulder and leg injuries, hasn’t played since July 27. He’s batting .200 with two home runs and nine RBIs, but provides a defensive upgrade in center field.
