Young Player’s Home Run Bat Fetches Surprising Price at Auction

A baseball bat tossed in the air by a young New Jersey player, in celebration of a home run that initially earned him a suspension, was sold for nearly $10,000 at auction on Friday. The sale of the bat, signed by 12-year-old Marco Rocco, generated great anticipation. All proceeds will go to the Haddonfield Little League youth baseball league, where the young athlete plays.

Marco loves Little League and is happy to be able to give back to an organization he appreciates very much. Little League was a very important part of Marco’s life for a long time.

The auction, conducted by Goldin Auctions, received a total of 68 bids. The winning bid, which reached $9,882, did not reveal the bidder’s name. Marco’s bat flip on July 16, during the Little League sectional tournament final, resulted in his ejection, a one-game suspension, and a legal battle. The suspension would have prevented the young player from participating in the first game of the state tournament. Marco’s father, Joe Rocco, took the case to court and obtained an emergency temporary restraining order that allowed his son to play in the double-elimination tournament. The incident was also commemorated with a pin available at the Little League World Series. The bat gesture also caught the attention of major league players, who expressed their support for the young athlete.
