Eugenio Suárez on Alert: Finger Injury After Being Hit by a Pitch

Arizona Diamondbacks star third baseman Eugenio Suárez is in suspense after suffering a blow to his right index finger during Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers, which ended in a 5-1 defeat. Suárez, who could be transferred to a contending team, was hit by a 95.6 mph fastball thrown by Will Vest in the ninth inning. The player immediately collapsed, visibly affected, and had to leave the field.

The good news is that the X-rays were negative, but obviously it hurts. There are more tests scheduled for Tuesday and we’ll see from there. I’ll be back as soon as I can.

Eugenio Suárez
The 34-year-old infielder has had an outstanding season, batting .248 with 36 home runs and 87 RBIs in 104 games. This mark represents the seventh time in the last eight full seasons that he has surpassed 30 home runs.

It’s very tough and he never flinches. When he reacts like that, you know it’s not good.

Torey Lovullo, Diamondbacks Manager
Lovullo also commented on the pitcher, indicating that he doesn’t believe there was intent in the pitch. He highlighted the importance of Suárez as one of the most impressive hitters in MLB. The Diamondbacks, with a record of 51-56, have already indicated their intention to transfer players. Among the teams interested in Suárez are the Tigers, the team with which the Venezuelan debuted in 2014.
