Tarik Skubal Considers Continuing in the World Baseball Classic
Detroit Tigers’ star pitcher Tarik Skubal is reconsidering his participation in the World Baseball Classic with Team USA, an unexpected turn in his initial plans. Originally, Skubal was scheduled to make a single appearance with the US team before returning to the Tigers to continue his preparation for the MLB season. After his debut in the World Baseball Classic in the victory over Great Britain, Skubal admitted that he was reconsidering his decision to leave the star-studded team.Skubal also added:I didn’t expect these kinds of emotions to run through my brain or for my thoughts to be different. I was pretty committed to making an exit and returning to camp.

The pitcher is in what could be his final season with the Tigers and is expected to get a lucrative long-term contract if he reaches free agency next offseason. Skubal, who has been a two-time American League Cy Young Award winner, said he was having conversations with the Tigers and his agent, Scott Boras, but emphasized that “he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to make a decision at this time.” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters that he spoke briefly with Skubal on Saturday night, adding that the star left-handed pitcher is “in a tough spot to get it all done.”Things have changed, obviously. That’s why I’m going to have some conversations and try to figure out a plan for myself. But yes, I don’t know anything.

Skubal also expressed his gratitude to the United States team for adapting to his “unique” situation and noted that he is facing “one of the most difficult decisions I have made in my career so far.”I don’t think anything has been determined. I think he’s incredibly excited about the experience. It’s a difficult moment that weighs heavily on the players because they want to do everything.

The United States team improved to 2-0 in the World Baseball Classic group with Saturday’s 9-1 victory over Great Britain. Skubal allowed a home run to Nate Eaton on the first pitch of the game before settling down and finishing with five strikeouts in 41 pitches in three innings.They have been extremely understanding with everything. They totally understand what is happening with my situation, it’s unique. I’ve had these conversations with people, and most of them support me a lot for being here in the first place. And I have a lot of respect for that.
