Shane Bieber Returns to Action: Guardians Pitcher in Rehabilitation
Cleveland Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber is set to begin his rehabilitation in the Arizona Complex League this Tuesday. The player is in the process of recovering after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2024.
Bieber, winner of the American League Cy Young Award in 2020, suffered a setback on June 3rd, when he felt discomfort during a bullpen session. However, on Sunday, the pitcher completed a bullpen session in Cleveland.
In the past season, Bieber participated in two games with the Guardians, achieving a 2-0 record and accumulating 20 strikeouts in 12 innings without allowing runs. In December, the right-handed pitcher agreed to a one-year contract for 14 million dollars, with a player option for 16 million dollars in 2026.
On the other hand, Trevor Stephan, also recovering from Tommy John surgery, had a difficult performance in a rehabilitation appearance with Triple-A Columbus on Sunday. Stephan only managed one out and was punished with four runs and two hits.
The Guardians also reported that infielder Gabriel Arias, who is suffering from a left ankle sprain, will begin running in the coming days.
Chase DeLauter, outfield prospect, has been playing with discomfort in his right wrist and again did not participate in Sunday’s game with Columbus. He will undergo an evaluation to determine the plan going forward.
