Luis Severino Returns to Action with the Athletics

Right-handed pitcher Luis Severino has been activated from the 15-day injured list and is scheduled to start Tuesday night’s game in St. Louis. Severino, who signed a 67 million dollar contract for three years in December, the largest deal in club history, and was the Opening Day starter, had been out since August 6 due to a strain in his left oblique muscle.

His current record is 6-11 with an ERA of 4.82 in 24 starts, accumulating 103 strikeouts and 44 walks in 136 1/3 innings. In his last five outings, Severino shows a more solid performance, with a 4-1 record, an ERA of 2.93, and 30 strikeouts.

In addition to Severino’s reinstatement, the Athletics have also made other moves on their roster.
  • Infielder/outfielder Max Schuemann was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas.
  • Right-handed pitcher Scott McGough was selected from Triple-A.
  • Eduarniel Nuñez was optioned to Las Vegas.
  • Left-handed pitcher Ben Bowden was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
McGough, 35, began the season with the Arizona Triple-A Reno team, and was designated for assignment on June 5. Nine days later, on June 14, he signed a minor league contract with the Athletics, achieving a 4-0 record with a save in 16 appearances for Las Vegas.
