Rangers’ Marcus Semien Suffers Foot Fracture and Sprain

The Texas Rangers’ second baseman, Marcus Semien, is facing a four-to-six-week recovery period due to a fracture and sprain in his left foot. This injury could significantly affect his season, unless the team achieves an outstanding performance in October. Semien was placed on the injured list on Saturday, this being only the second time in his 13-year career. The injury occurred on Thursday in the first inning of the game against Kansas City, where he was hit by a pitch on his left foot.

“Hopefully we can get back to the fight and see where we’re at by then. I’ll be watching for a while. The thing we’re most concerned about is the Lisfranc ligament, just trying to keep it intact by staying away from it. If you break it, it could be a year. I’m just trying to keep it intact and let the other fracture heal.”

The Rangers are 4.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the last wild card spot in the American League and 6.5 games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West Division. The last time Semien was on the injured list was in 2017, when he played for the Athletics, due to a right wrist injury that kept him out for almost three months. Since joining the Rangers before the 2022 season, Semien had only missed six of the team’s 615 games. He signed a seven-year, $175 million contract.

“It’s definitely something new for me. I haven’t been on the injured list in a long time. But it’s going to take a while. So I think what I can do is watch the games and do my part to help the guys.”
