Rangers’ Corey Seager Undergoes Appendectomy
Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager underwent an appendectomy on Thursday after experiencing abdominal pain during a game on Wednesday night. Chris Young, the team’s president of baseball operations, reported that Seager underwent surgery in Texas after the team traveled to California for the start of a series against the Athletics on Friday night. Young indicated that it is premature to determine how long the two-time World Series Most Valuable Player will be out. Seager will be placed on the 10-day injured list, and the Rangers will call up infielder Dylan Moore, who recently signed a minor league contract after being released by the Seattle Mariners. Center fielder Evan Carter (broken right wrist) will be transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster. Initially, it was thought that Seager had left the game after the 20-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night due to the lopsided score. The Rangers were winning 11-1, and Seager had hit his team-leading 21st home run and scored three runs before manager Bruce Bochy replaced him in the field in the top of the fifth inning.Young explained that Seager had felt some pain before the game, but nothing that worried the team or the shortstop. However, the pain increased during the game, and he was diagnosed with appendicitis after being evaluated after leaving the field.“I thought that too,” Young said. “Bochy was going to take him out anyway, but the timing coincided simultaneously.”
