In a historic night for baseball, [Philadelphia Phillies](https://www.mlb.com/phillies) slugger Kyle Schwarber hit four home runs, becoming the 21st player in MLB history to achieve this feat and the fourth in Phillies history. Schwarber had a stellar performance, batting 6-4 and accumulating nine RBIs, setting a new record for the Phillies. The team’s victory was decisive, with a final score of 19-4. With these home runs, Schwarber leads the National League with 49 home runs, surpassing his personal best and approaching the MLB leader, Cal Raleigh of Seattle. Additionally, Schwarber leads the Major Leagues with 119 RBIs, demonstrating his impact on the team.

“It’s something great,” Schwarber said. “It was a fun night, a great atmosphere. I couldn’t have done it with a better group of guys than the ones we have here.”

The last Phillies player to hit four home runs in a game was Mike Schmidt, who achieved the feat in April 1976. Schwarber joins Eugenio Suárez and Nick Kurtz as the only players to hit four home runs in a game this season.

Schwarber’s 49 home runs put him in second place historically for the Phillies in a season, surpassing Ryan Howard (2008) and Schmidt (1980), and only behind Ryan Howard’s 58 in 2006.

“He just cooperated,” commented Schwarber, who came to the game without hits in his last 20 at-bats. “You can do everything right and fail, and you can do everything wrong and get a hit. I got good pitches and connected good swings.”

In the second inning, he hit a fly ball to center field. After Quantrill was relieved, Schwarber faced left-hander Austin Cox in the fourth inning and hit a home run to right field, his second of the night. With the fans chanting “M-V-P! M-V-P!” in the fifth inning, Schwarber hit a three-run home run to left field, putting Philadelphia up 15-3. In the seventh, he hit another three-run home run to right field against Wander Suero, increasing the lead to 18-4. In the eighth inning, Schwarber was struck out by the Braves’ third baseman, Vidal Brujan.

“I’m bad against position players,” Schwarber joked. “You’re just trying to get a good pitch. I got it. I just popped it up.”
