Seth Lugo and the Kansas City Royals Close to Multi-Year Deal
Right-handed pitcher Seth Lugo and the Kansas City Royals are close to finalizing a multi-year contract extension, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Lugo, 35 years old, was considered one of the players with the most potential to be transferred before the trade deadline this season, and also one of the most coveted arms in free agency this winter.
During the last five seasons, Lugo has maintained an ERA of 3.60 or lower, despite having below-average fastball velocity and non-exceptional strikeout rates. The right-handed pitcher’s ability to strand runners and limit hard contact is due in part to his nine different pitches, giving him the flexibility to adapt during the game, a luxury shared by only a few MLB starters.
