Kansas City Royals Activate Injured List for Ryan Bergert

Kansas City, Mo. – The Kansas City Royals have decided to place starting pitcher Ryan Bergert on the injured list due to right forearm discomfort. The situation arose in the bullpen, just before Wednesday night’s 7-5 victory against the Seattle Mariners.

Bergert was scheduled to start Friday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Bergert’s spot in the rotation will be taken by right-handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen, who was originally scheduled to pitch multiple innings in relief on Wednesday. Lorenzen made his first regular season relief appearance since September 28, 2024, in Atlanta, after having been the starter in his first 24 appearances. In the fifth inning, he retired the batters with 12 pitches and currently has an ERA of 1.29 (1 earned run in 7.0 innings) in three relief appearances in the regular season with the Royals.

Wednesday’s starting pitcher, Cole Ragans, did not get a decision for the Royals after pitching 3 1/3 innings in his first start since June 5, after recovering from a left rotator cuff strain that kept him on the injured list.
