Houston Astros Lose Ronel Blanco to Elbow Injury
The Houston Astros have placed right-handed pitcher Ronel Blanco on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation. The news, retroactive to Tuesday, comes as the starter seeks a second opinion on his injury.
“He wants to go get a second opinion. So, once he gets that second opinion and we have more clarity on the injury, we’ll report something,” manager Joe Espada commented.

Espada added that Blanco has scheduled the second opinion for next week.
Blanco joins an extensive list of Astros starting pitchers on the injured list. Right-hander Hayden Wesneski, out of action since early May, will undergo Tommy John surgery that will end his season. Spencer Arrighetti has also been out since April after breaking his right thumb in an accident during batting practice. In addition, the team is without right-handers Luis Garcia and Cristian Javier, who are still recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Blanco, 31, is 3-4 with a 4.10 ERA in nine starts this season.
To take his place on the roster, Houston called up left-hander Colton Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land.
