Ron Washington Will Remain Out of Action for Medical Reasons

The Los Angeles Angels announced this Friday that their manager, Ron Washington, will remain on medical leave for the rest of the season.

Washington, 73, hasn’t managed the team since June 19, in the last game of the four-game series against the Yankees in New York.

One day later, the Angels reported that he would be out indefinitely due to health issues, after experiencing difficulty breathing and appearing fatigued at the end of the series against the Yankees.

Ray Montgomery, bench coach, has been at the helm of the team in Washington’s absence and will continue to do so. The team has had a 4-2 record since Washington took leave, raising their mark to .500 (40-40) before the start of Friday night’s series against the Washington Nationals.

Washington, who led the Texas Rangers to two consecutive World Series in 2010 and 2011, was hired by general manager Perry Minasian before the 2024 season, in which the Angels lost a franchise-record 99 games.
