Roman Anthony, Red Sox prospect, out with injury
Boston Red Sox rookie Roman Anthony will not play again in the regular season due to an injury. The player was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to a left oblique strain. Anthony, 21, was removed from Tuesday’s game against Cleveland, where the Red Sox won 11-7, after striking out in the fourth inning. An MRI revealed the severity of the injury. Manager Alex Cora indicated that there is no defined timeframe for Anthony’s return, but that, generally, players are out of action for between four and six weeks with this type of oblique issue. Before Wednesday’s game, Boston was 2.5 games behind Toronto, leader of the American League East. They were also in position for the second American League wild card.Anthony missed two games last month with a back strain, but the outfielder said Tuesday night that this injury felt worse. The Red Sox also called up infielder-outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester before Wednesday night’s game against the Guardians. Anthony, one of the best baseball prospects, made his debut in the Major Leagues on June 9th. He’s batting .292 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs in 71 games with the Red Sox. Anthony, a second-round pick in the 2022 amateur draft, signed an eight-year, $130 million contract on August 6.We keep moving forward. At some point, he will be part of this, so you just have to be patient, keep pitching, keep having good at-bats, keep playing.
