In an exciting American League Division Series matchup, the Seattle Mariners secured a crucial victory over the Detroit Tigers with a score of 3-2 in the second game, tying the series.
Rodriguez Drives the Victory
Julio Rodríguez became the key figure of the game by hitting a run-scoring double in the eighth inning, breaking the tie and putting the Mariners ahead definitively.
The game was tied 2-2 when Cal Raleigh, a candidate for the American League MVP, hit a double with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. Following that, Rodríguez drove in Raleigh with a double, unleashing euphoria at T-Mobile Park.
Andrés Muñoz, the closer, secured the victory by retiring the Tigers in order in the ninth inning, a day after pitching two innings in the loss of the first game.
Jorge Polanco shined with two home runs for Seattle, contributing significantly to the team’s offense.
The Tigers managed to tie the game in the top of the eighth inning after Matt Brash allowed Gleyber Torres to get a walk and Riley Greene reached first on a defensive error. Spencer Torkelson then hit a double to tie the score.
In the fourth inning, Polanco hit a solo home run, and then added another in the sixth inning.
Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal, despite striking out nine batters in seven innings, couldn’t avoid the loss.
The Mariners’ pitcher, Luis Castillo, had a solid performance, allowing only one hit in 4 2/3 innings.
Logan Gilbert will be Seattle’s starter in the third game, facing Jack Flaherty for the Tigers.
