The Colorado Rockies returned from Texas with a bitter taste, after becoming the first team in the modern era of baseball to lose 36 of their first 43 games. Now, the team hopes that a day off in Arizona will allow them to reset.
That’s the plan. We’re looking forward to the day off and facing the Diamondbacks in Arizona.
Warren Schaeffer, interim manager
The 8-3 loss to the Texas Rangers marked Colorado’s eleventh loss in their last 12 games. The Rockies now have the dubious honor of being the first team to start with a 7-36 record since 1900. In addition, they suffered their seventh sweep of the season and have yet to know victory under the direction of Schaeffer, who took over on Sunday.
Ryan McMahon, third baseman and All-Star player in 2024, with playoff experience with Colorado in 2017 and 2018, conveyed a message of perseverance to his teammates.
You just have to keep going. You have to keep your head up and keep working. We have a lot of areas where we can improve, and that’s the only way we’ll do it.
Ryan McMahon, third baseman
The Rockies’ performance as visitors is concerning, with a record of 2-20, matching four other teams with the worst performance after 22 away games in the modern era. Antonio Senzatela, Wednesday’s starting pitcher, has accumulated 10 consecutive losses in his away starts since the beginning of 2022.
Colorado has struggled from the start of many games, being outscored 44-15 in the early innings. In their last two losses in Texas, the Rockies’ pitching allowed three runs to the first three batters on Tuesday and four runs in the first four innings on Wednesday.
We have to find a way to start games better.
Warren Schaeffer, interim manager
Schaeffer, who has not achieved victories in his three games leading the team, highlights the team’s effort and morale.
The guys deliver. In the clubhouse before the game. All the preparatory work. In the dugout. The pitchers who aren’t pitching get involved during the game. Maybe a little too much. But we need to find that balance so we can get the job done.
