In a pitchers’ duel, Ranger Suárez outdueled German Márquez, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies, thus securing the sweep in the four-game series.

The Colorado team continues to suffer, with a record of 8-42, marking the worst start in 50 games in the modern MLB era, since 1901. The Rockies are on pace to lose 136 games this season, a figure that would surpass the historical record for losses in MLB.

On the other hand, the Phillies have demonstrated their dominance, accumulating seven consecutive victories and 11 in their last 12 away games. With an outstanding performance, the Phillies lead the National League with the best record in 50 games (32-18).

Ranger Suárez pitched for 6 2/3 innings, striking out six batters and walking three. He left the game after allowing a double and a walk.

Orion Kerkering entered the relief, retiring Hunter Goodman to end the threat, while Jordan Romano secured the game with his final three outs, earning his sixth save.

German Márquez, for his part, allowed two runs, one of them earned, on four hits, with five strikeouts and two walks.

I feel like every day is our day, and we have to go out and give our best to win. I feel like we need to be together, and I feel like we are closer to that point.

German Márquez

In the seventh inning, Márquez walked Kyle Schwarber, and Max Kepler drove in a run with a double, extending the lead to 2-0.

Bryce Harper, with a double in the fourth inning, drove in Bryson Stott, who had reached base on an error.

The Rockies had a chance to score in the second inning, but Brenton Doyle hit a triple with one out, and the inning ended without runs.

The Rockies have been shut out eight times this season and their 45 errors in 50 games are the most for an MLB team since the 2019 Seattle Mariners.

With the arrival of the New York Yankees for a three-game series, the situation remains bleak for the Rockies, who have yet to announce the starting pitcher for that game.
