Rockies Release Austin Gomber After Difficult Season
The Colorado Rockies announced the release of left-handed pitcher Austin Gomber, who came to the team in a trade that involved third baseman Nolan Arenado.
Gomber had a complicated season, with a 0-7 record in 12 starts and an ERA of 7.49 for the Rockies, who are in the last places of the league. His last victory was on September 5, 2024.
The Rockies acquired Gomber along with four other players in the deal that sent Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals in February 2021.
Gomber had a 28-44 record with an ERA of 5.31 in 125 appearances with the Rockies. He was originally selected by the Cardinals in the fourth round of the 2014 amateur draft.
In addition to Gomber’s release, the Rockies made other moves on their roster.
- They selected the contract of left-hander Lucas Gilbreath from Triple-A Albuquerque.
- They called up right-hander Angel Chivilli.
- They placed right-hander Dugan Darnell on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his left hip.
